Overview & Approach
Go to the previous pageI was already a big fan of floating maps which existed in games such as Quake 3 : Arena and Unreal Tournament, and I'd always had a softspot for the levitating castles seen in many fantasy based films and artwork.
However I wanted to add a little twist on it, so I took the 'fantasy' concept and applied it to the dirty, industrial theme of Quake 4. I wanted the gameplay to feel claustrophobic but also give players plenty of options and freedom, which was achieved by building numerous levels, rooms, and supports for the players to navigate.
